Two Families, One Day

This is a celebration of family, heritage and the traditions that shaped us.

It brings together the Alfa and Osim families. Oceania's family are Igala and Idoma. Eko's family are Bahumono, from Usumutong in Abi Local Government Area, Cross River State. The day belongs to both sides equally, and you are warmly welcome at it whichever side you are coming from.

The Nigerian Silk Road

The day is dressed as a market town on an old trade route. Cloth in the shade, brass on a table, carved screens, baskets and timber, and a courtyard laid out for the families to meet in.

What to Wear

Traditional attire is warmly encouraged. Wear your own heritage if you have one to wear, and formal dress if you would rather. The three looks below are there to show the level of dress, not to be copied.

For Women

A wrapper and blouse, a full traditional dress, or a long dress with a gele. Cloth with some weight to it sits best in a room like this one.

For Men

An agbada, a kaftan, a senator suit, or the traditional dress of your own family, with a cap if you wear one.

  • Garnet Deep red

  • Terracotta Warm clay

  • Olive Deep green

  • Teal Deep blue green

  • Raffia Pale woven

A colour direction rather than a rule. The final colours, and the colours held back for the families, are To be confirmed.
